FAVORS RECEIVED THROUGH THE INTERCESSION OF ANGELENA LYAKA BETWEEN 1928 AND 1934

TESTIMONY 1:

TESTIMONY, RECORED BY FATHER WILLEMEN:  NAGONGERA PARISH, TORORO DIOCESE, EASTERN UGANDA. 1934.

                                                                                              C.M Nagongera Budama

16/11/1934

About  4 years ago we baptized a Leper woman.  Her whole body smelled.  Some time later she came to me on a Saturday afternoon,  and asked me for a clean cloth, which she would use to dress the festering leper wounds of her 3 fingers.  I said, I will give you the cloth, but you must ask our Lord to cure you.  Ask Angelena to help you.   I touched her with the beads which I had taken from Angelena before she died and told her not to use any medicine but simply clean the wounds everyday with clean water.  I would make with her a Novena to ask the intercession of Angelena.  After a fortnight she came back again on Saturday, and told me her story;  She had cleaned the would everyday and on the 8th day of the Novena, her fingers were cured and a new skin covered the part of the 2nd joint from the top which leprosy had not yet eaten away.  I had done it all on the quiet, but then I called in Father Thoonen to testify her perfect cure.   He was the Father who happened to have baptized this woman and remembered her very well on account of the repulsive smell caused by the leprosy.

TESTIMONY 2:

TESTIMONY OF URSEULINE SISTERS; NYONDO CONVENT:  16TH JUNE 1930.
Here is the testimony of the Mother Superioress of Nyondo Convent, whom I (Father Willemen) had told about Angelena, and who I had promised to help her by going to the grave of Angelena to say a Rosary and say a Holy. Mass in order to ask for a cure of a sister.
Her sister suffered much from fever during almost a full year and the stomach hurt her often very painfully.  She and her community kept a Novena in honour of Angelena, the Native girl of Nagongera/Dabani Mission.  The stomachaches stopped almost immediately and the fever left her within a few days.  Seven months passed, during which time she did not get the slightest attack.

Signed:
Urseuline Sisters
C.M Nyundo, June 16th 30
Note.  As a matter of fact Mr. Gabriel had asked my advice, whether he should keep the sister in this country or rather send her home, but she was more of the opinion that  she could do a lot by prayer even if she could not do any work.

TESTIMONY 3:

In this connection there is another little story about a Sister of Mill Hill working in Kenya.   Sr…………….. was always ill at Kisumu, though she was only about a year in Africa.  The Doctor ordered her to change to Uganda, where she could consult famous doctors in Kampala and then stay with the Abbey of Mill Hill Sister to recuperate.  Her case was hopeless.  I happened to meet her and the mother, who took her back to Kisumu and she told me that her passage was booked, in order to go home. I said to the mother. Did you pray well, because it is such a pity for such a young sister to have to go home.  Well father she will be able to do something for us at home.  I told her, let us add more prayers and I told her the story about the Nyondo Sister.  Going home I want to Tororo to the grave of Angelena, said a rosary, and said a Holy Mass, for this sister.  They went home to the Mission in Kisumu, and went to the doctor who had treated her in the beginning.  He concluded at once.  Do not send her home but let her go to another Mission to try.  This was done and in a short time she became the life of the Community and is ………….. still there.

TESTIMONY 4:

Anna Maria Akelo of Makauri, wife of Zakaria Okado
She became absolutely mad in April 1933.  She refused her baby and did not know anybody.  The catechist came to tell me and with him I sent some beads worn by Angelena and attached them to a medal, so that she would not tear them away from her neck.  The husband made a Novena, during the whole Novena there was not the slightest improvement.  On the 10th day she began to understand things all of a sudden.  She asked who put this medal around my neck.  Then her husband told her the whole story and she said that is alright, pray for me.  After that she never was troubled again.
